Now that I’m pregnant I can’t stop thinking about all the things I want to share with and teach my little boy. Things like, how to be a caring and compassionate individual, having big dreams and how to accomplish them, not letting the little setbacks in life hold him down etc, etc. Then I thought, wow if I could go back and write a letter to my younger self, what would I say to her? So, here it is.
You are a beautiful person both inside and out, don’t ever ever forget that.
You have the ability to do anything you want in life. It won’t come easy and you will have to work hard and take many risks, but if you believe in yourself you can do it. You will undoubtedly encounter much sadness along your journey in life, but with time and good people by your side you will get through it and those moments will make you a stronger, better person. You will also encounter many great things in life and you should always keep those memories as a reminder of the many blessings you have had. Money will come and go, but it is not the be all and end all in life. Your happiness should be the most important thing to you, whatever it takes to be happy should be the thing you focus on the most. Being a courteous, caring, loving person will attract good people into your life and those people will surround you with love, laughter and light in return. Travelling can bring you to some of the best experiences you will ever have. |Travel to new destinations both near and far, meet new people along the way and explore the extraordinary things life has to offer. Love with your full heart. Love your friends, love your family and most importantly love YOU. Take care of your health. Exercise, eat real food, enjoy the outdoors, stop to smell the flowers and bask in the beautiful sunlight. Despite how hard society is on people, try not to be too hard on yourself. Love you for you and know you are worthy of every breath you take. Don’t be judgmental for you have not experienced what others have, don’t be jealous for you are blessed in many ways of your own. Be passionate, be artistic and be bold. Don’t be afraid to hurt because this too shall pass. Be unique, be open to love, be fantastically you. Be true to yourself, be honest and be everything you’ve ever dreamed of. Your worth on this earth is so much more then you will ever know.
Love, from your older, wiser self.

Now, after reading this back to my husband for feedback I found myself in tears. I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls and boys deserve to hear this every single day of their lives, but don’t. Although I was loved unconditionally as a child, I didn’t have much encouragement to dream big, have faith in myself and be fantastically me. This letter has truly made me rethink how hard we can sometimes struggle as youngsters. Please don’t get me wrong, my family and friends are great, but many of them favored the simple life and stressed job security and a safer formula for success then venturing into the unknown. I’ve learned that for me being happy and taking risks is much more important then playing it safe. Kids go through many stages of life and it can get hard, but if you have someone in your corner always rooting for you to be your best self, strive for your dreams and follow your heart you might realize that life does get better than you ever could of imagined.
I would really encourage everyone to do this. It has been a really cool experience and one I’m really happy I shared with you all.
I’m off to go be fantastically me and write a letter to my unborn boy (which I will put in his memory book) because he already deserves to know how important and valued he is in this life.
