I have been so so excited to write this post. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge foodie and have sourced out some of the BEST restaurants in Toronto. So, I have one I can’t wait to tell you about.
The Stockyards Smokehouse and Larder is located at St.Clair and Christie and is a new fashioned Diner and BBQ joint. I’m just going to get right to it, this place is fucking awesome.
You won’t find your traditional line of milkshake blenders, old school bar stools or classic style sandwiches(been there done that), but that’s what keeps a line up out the door at all times. This place is unique and crafty in its set up, menu and operating hours.
The stockyards is offering up a delicious spread of good eats including Griddle smashed burgers, fried chicken and waffles, The stockyard Sandwich and killer biscuits with sausage gravy (my mouth is actually watering). The burgers are cooked to medium well unless requested otherwise and must be paired with a heaping side of fries (Burgers range from $7.00-$14.00). The stockyard breakfast sandwich is a fried poached egg (Yes a fucking fried poached egg) with bacon or country sage sausage and aged cheddar cuddled between the best buttermilk biscuit I’ve ever had. The fried chicken sits atop a large Belgian waffle drizzled in chili maple molasses citrus glaze (2 pc $13.00, 4pc $16.00) and the house made butter biscuits drenched in sage country sausage and black pepper pan gravy are accompanied by the most perfect side of scrambled eggs ($11.00).
The place is small and inviting. If you go for breakfast, lunch or brunch you’ll be greeted by the absolutely wonderful Lisa. She’s that cool mom that everyone wanted as a kid. Hell, I’m 33 and I wish she was my mom. Lisa and Kian are the perfect pair of crazy when working together. While seating patrons, taking orders, delivering food, cashing people out and doing take out orders these two are nothing short of amazing. They keep the place alive and buzzing at all times and run the place with so much energy while having fun with it.
The morning crew is another reason we keep coming back. Charlotte is absolutely fantastic (and completely adorable). Always smiling and makes an effort to say hello and engage in friendly conversation, miraculously remembering customers names while calmly flipping burgers, frying chicken and putting together the never ending stream of orders. Shes such a delight to watch work and is killer in the kitchen, her food never disappoints…not ever. She wouldn’t be able to do it without her super cool, totally rad partner in crime Jabriel (he’s even got a super cool name). Jabriel is such a pleasure to see each time we come into the joint. He’s got such a calm and collected vibe and keeps cool no matter how crazy busy the place is. He’s smooth on the line and hammers out delicious fare with such ease.
Very rarely do you see such an awesome group keep such a busy place running so smoothly. I’ve never seen so many happy, pleased people leave a restaurant. Every single time we’re in there, the only thing you hear is people chatting about how good the food is…these guys are killin it! Keep up the amazing work Stockyards, you guys are all Rockstars!!
Guys, take my word for it, check out this menu and get your asses in there. You will not regret it.
My recommendations are the stockyard, the beast, griddle cakes, the fried chicken dinner, the biscuits with sausage gravy and the chicken and waffles. Although, I can promise anything you order will leave you feeling completely fulfilled.
